Godwin By Korede Bello!! Does It make you feel worldy?
On Sunday April 5, 2015, Mavin records act, Korede Bello was a guest minister at Harvesters International Christian Center (HICC) in Lagos where he performed his hit single, ‘Godwin’. There has been uproar since this performance with people saying He didn’t have a right to perform “Secular Music in Church”. A US based Pastor as well as a Gospel act have also spoken up against this. Korede also, made a comment about it on his Instagram page saying “Am I not allowed to give my testimony”.
The song “Godwin” was pretty much about being thankful to God from the beginning to the end depending on how you want to see it. A lot of people have classified it as a diss song, while others have argued that when they sing this song they are thinking about God and nothing worldly.
Pastor Olusola Fabunmi of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, City of Faith in Maryland released a statement saying that the reason we have the singing in churches is to prepare our hearts for the word of God, he went further to ask “is he born again? Sanctified with the spirit of God and baptized in the Holy Spirit?” Stating that if the Holy Spirit is not present while all the singing is going on, then the worship is pointless.
Although he has a point, Matthew 18:20 states “For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.” Now these people came to church on Easter Sunday, I want to believe that everyone gathered in that church gathered with one purpose “To Serve / Worship God”. And if all these people are gathered with the purpose to honor God and it so happened that Korede Bello was present to perform this song to glorify God, where is the wrong? Where is the proof that God wasn’t in their presence when this song was being performed?
Whenever I listen to this particular song, I am always filled with thanks towards God, and no; I am not in church whenever I listen. The church is not only meant for the perfect people. Christ didn’t come to earth for the saved. When he chose his disciples none of them were perfect. Korede Bello clearly wrote the song with thanks to God, so why can’t he sing it in the house of God?
